“Everybody wants to be great, until it’s time to do what greatness requires.”
Mhmm…yup!
We’re going there today.
GREATNESS.
A word so many of us use, but few people truly understand the requisites needed to possess this unique characterization.
All throughout this series, I have reiterated one thing:
Destiny, simply put, is Heaven’s expectation of you.
And, it is on God’s agenda that you become GREAT.
In other words, God expects that you live a life above mediocrity, a life above average, a life above the norm, and a life above ordinary.
It is expected that at the end of the number of your days here on earth, your life would be the very embodiment of remarkable brilliance and beauty.
That your life would bring so much glory and honor, to reflect the excellent GREATNESS of our GREAT GOD.
Sounds ah-mazing, right?
GREATNESS.
Surely, we all want it.
Deep down inside, we imagine ourselves owning it.
But, the truth of the matter is that:
There’s a price for it.
And, the price for greatness, is greatness.
There is no greater challenge to becoming great, than making the conscious, consistent effort to actually be great.
“Sis, you betta talk to me right, what do you mean?”
Well you see…
Everyone wants to be the next Amazon, but few are willing to use their garage as a bookstore.
Everyone wants to be the next Kobe Bryant, but few are willing to stay in the gym after all their teammates have gone home.
Everybody wants to be the next Mike Todd, but few are willing to be pruned, tried, and tested.
Everyone wants to own the next McDonald’s, but few are willing to try several selling processes until they discover the perfect one.
Everyone wants to be the next Ikea, but few are willing to sell matchsticks door to door.
None of these people, companies and superstars, had greatness ‘magically,’ fall upon them.
They didn’t set out to be game-changers in their sphere of influence by accident!
They were purposeful and they were intentional about the greatness they wanted to own.
Their greatness that you see today, is a byproduct of the greatness that nobody saw yesterday!
Are you getting what I’m saying?
The price for greatness, is greatness!
Yes, you are destined to government,
Yes, you are destined to ministry,
Yes, you are destined to write books,
Yes, you are destined to start a business,
Yes, you are destined to be a doctor,
Yes, you are destined to be an influencer,
Yes, you are destined to be a renowned musician,
But, it all comes with a price!
And, that price is GREATNESS!
For every great desire, there is a great demand!
If you’re desire is to be great in the light, then you’ll have to learn to become great first in the dark!
When no one is watching, when no one is listening, when no one is paying attention…
When no one is clapping their hands,
When no one is mentioning your name in a room full of opportunities,
When no one knows about the wonderful gift God put in you for the purpose of His advancing His kingdom,
You are still FAITHFUL, OBEDIENT, SACRIFICIAL, DEVOTED, COMMITTED, SUBMITTED, to the very destiny that you have been assigned!
That means…
When only 4 people read your blog post,
When you only sell 7 products a week,
When your 3-point shot always hits the rim,
When your book is turned down by every publisher,
When you keep failing that nursing exam,
When no one streams your music,
You are still SURRENDERED to the character, quality, and process of GREATNESS.
1 Peter 2:9 says,
“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.”
I mean…isn’t the Word of God, so sweet?
It is in God’s plan to take you from a nobody to a somebody!
It is in God’s plan to have you be accepted!
It is in God’s plan to use you as an instrument and do His work!
It is in God’s plan for your gift to make room for you.
It is in God’s plan to give you a future and a hope that you long for.
It is in God’s plan for you to simply BE GREAT.
You are destined for greatness, friend!
But there is a PRICE, a PROCESS, and a PERSEVERANCE that you must endure IN CHRIST if you want to be all that God has said you will be.
Maybe, you’re reading this today and you are thinking to yourself..
“Girl, you have absolutely no idea what I am going through.”
Truth is, I don’t—and, probably never will.
But God does.
And for every GREATNESS God has called you to, there is a GRACE He has given to back it up.
There is a grace to get through the hard times, the failures, the difficulties, and the upsets along the road to fulfilling your destiny of greatness.
Can I encourage you with this scripture?
Romans 5:3-5 says,
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame.”
Lift your head up.
Keep doing good.
The harvest is around the corner.
Surrender every detail of your life to the Author.
Fight for your life.
Fight to fulfill your destiny.
Push to become great.
The promise He has for you, is that, “you will not be put to shame.”
