In order to become a champion, it’ll taking more than winning…
It’ll take rising.
Are you destined to WIN?
And, are you destined to RISE?
My answer is, all the more so.
Now…I like basketball, so let’s jump into this analogy.
At the start of any NBA season, all teams are given the fair and equal chance to play hard, show off their talent, but most importantly, WIN games.
From 2017-2018, one of my favourite basketball teams—the Golden State Warriors—went back to back and snatched the title of NBA champions. They were one of the most loved-hated teams (and arguably still are) because they simply did not know how to LOSE.
In the 2016-17 season, they ended off having WON 67 games and losing a mere 15.
Talk about undefeated!
And in the 2017-18 season, they ended with 58 WINS and lost 24.
Not as great as the season prior…but they managed to escape both seasons with a great number of WINS and ultimately, the championship title.
But what I need you to realize is that, although they won an incredible number of games in the regular season..
You don’t get a chip for winning games in the regular season.
You get a chip for winning 16 games in the playoffs.
And, everybody knows the play-offs are a different beast!
You have conference first-round,
conference semis next round,
conference finals after that,
and the NBA finals to round it off.
Talk about a battle to win, right?
Never mind fighting to RISE from round to round.
The play-offs is a fight to RISE from game to game, which means it’s a fight to RISE from quarter to quarter, which means it’s a fight for players to individually RISE from mental toughness to mental toughness.
From the moment the ball tips in Game 1 Round 1 the journey to ASCEND begins.
This is why, whether you love the Golden State Warriors or you dislike a great such as Lebron (and whatever super-team he be on) you respect who the CHAMP is at the end of the day because they ROSE to an unprecedented height in the sport of basketball that other teams could not RISE to.
Do you see where I’m going with this?
You my friend, have not simply been marked to WIN at life.
You are destined RISE.
And, I’m gonna keep saying it until you get into your spirit and believe it.
You are destined to be the champ. You are destined to be the MVP.
You have been assigned to be the very best at what you do.
You have been selected to dominate your sphere of influence all to the glory of God.
God did not create you to play small. Because guess what? Your playing small—especially, as a believer—doesn’t serve the world.
He didn’t create you to win a game in life once, twice or maybe even three times.
He created you to always have the upperhand. To always be the winner. To never experience defeat, just like the Golden State Warriors in those two unforgettable seasons.
Watch this 2 Corinthians 4:8 says,
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
Whew, what a word!
This is the promise that you and I must stand on if we want to step away from the realm of winner and soar into the height of champion.
Many of us are okay with what we like to call “small victories” and “small wins” of life!
But, isn’t that an oxymoron?
While a win will always remain a win, what we can take away from a sport like basketball is that it’s not enough to simply win, you must CONSTANTLY fight to become the champion God has destined you to be!
You must CONSTANTLY fight to win against the challenges, adversities, and hardships of life.
And champions…win BIG.
They WIN in impact.
They WIN at influence.
They WIN every battle.
They win and they rise.
It is God’s desire that you RISE to the level of your assignment, calling, and mission here on earth!
It is God’s desire that you RISE to the challenge that beckons you to cultivate every gift, talent, and ability He has invested into you!
It is on God’s agenda that your star shines in this dark world and shines very brightly. God has crowned you to be King and has crowned you to be Queen in the territory he has allocated to you.
Don’t believe me?
Can I encourage you with this last word?
Remember when I told you last week, that you are more than a conqueror?
Yes, you are.
Romans 8:37 says,
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
God loves you!
He wants you to RISE.
If you’ve been going through life, accepting losses and small victories…
I want you to know today that you have a Champion on your side that is keen on making you a victor.
Relish in that truth and walk according to the winner’s nature He has given to you!
